FRENCH ARMY CHOOSES KERMEL® PROTECTIVE FABRICS

The French Army has selected Kermel® V50 and VMC40 fabrics to equip its troops within the context of the FELIN® Project (Infantry with Integrated Equipment and Connectivity). Combining extreme comfort, excellent durability, and exceptional fire resistance, both fabrics considerably improve camouflage dress standards, the V50 fabric for summer wear, and the VMC40 fabric for winter wear. The garment has been tested successfully by French armies and the first battalions will be equipped as of late 2008.

KERMEL LAUNCHES TWO NEW PROTECTIVE FABRICS

KERMEL, the leading European manufacturer of aramid fibers for protection against heat and flame, has developed two new fabrics that deliver outstanding levels of comfort without compromising performance.

KERMEL SOFSHIELD® is a new fiber, designed for a wide range of industrial sectors, that combines protection with comfort to allow the wearer to work safely and with confidence. The fibre does not ignite or melt when exposed to high temperatures. It also contains anti static properties that ensure that it is appropriate for use in applications where there may be danger of ignition. KERMEL SOFSHIELD® does not compromise durability and will withstand continuous washes in industrial laundries. The fibers’ resistance to UV is significantly above the industry standards, thanks to Kermel’s unique solution dyeing process.

KERMEL® “COMFORGUARD” is a new generation of a product that has proven itself in the electrical and petrochemical industry. It is one of the world’s lightest fabrics to be approved by the American NFPA 70E Class 2 standard for electric arc protection. All “COMFORGUARD” fabrics have a unique soft feel similar to cotton and do not pill. The fabric will deliver long life protection, maintaining colourfastness even after multiple use.

Jerome Heil of Kermel said:
“Kermel has a well established international track record for developing protective fabrics that meet all the needs of the modern industrial safety environment. The development of SOFSHIELD and “COMFORGUARD” represent the latest phase of a process of continuous research and development with customers and seeks to constantly push back the boundaries for protective clothing solutions in industrial and emergency services sectors.

Kermel® fiber has unique generic properties that ensure that they deliver an unbeatable level of performance for the wearer. It is smooth surfaced and therefore very comfortable. It retains good levels of elasticity and a high resistance to abrasion, which explain the excellent durability of the fibre. There is very little risk of the fibre shrinking during washing or drying, even at very high temperatures and it retains a natural resistance to detergents, making it easier to care for.
